Blue Coast Artist Tour and The Magic of Fall in Fennville

The Summer workshops came to a wrap up this month, love the energy and intentions all of our summer creatives shared at #artfarmfennville.

A very special Thank you to Lakeshore Networking with great locavore energy and wine from the generous folks at Cogdal Vineyards. It's small town charm and great things happening with new opportunities to learn Plein Air painting/sketch and drawing ala local place and space like the Summerhouse Lavender Farm and Evergreen Lane Artisan Cheese for great picnic basket finds while enjoying the Saugatuck Douglas enclave.

Blue Coast Artists will have an offering of fine local art, a great opportunity to visit a working creative and enjoy a glimpse into these very special studios and gallery spaces.

Our Hipcamp experience was a highlight of our summer fun. See a bite of our offerings below.

Figurative Drawing Wednesdays

We've had some beautiful work come from these three pose 2.5 hour sessions with a model. Charcoal, pencil and pastel welcome. Set up your self for oil and watercolor with room to stretch out in the Art Loft of our creative summer space. It's August Artists! Hand Crafted -Eco Friendly Series Papermaking using natural fibers and Cat Tails
A medium for those seeking to partner with Mother Nature
Eco Artist Sandra Hansen will take us on a Natural Fiber/Eco Walk as we gather materials
for our PaperMaking Workshop Saturday August 12, 2017
$80.00 per Adult, teen-tweens at half price w/ an adult also attending ( Limit 8 students.)

This three and a half hour workshop covers basic techniques of paper making including sheet forming, pressing and drying. Using a large format deckle and assorted pulps workshop participants will form a large format sheet and explore the possibilities of natural fiber, seeds, and cattail Fluff for stunning art paper.

Workshop Hours: Friday Evening optional meet and greet, 7-8:30 p.m. Workshop 9:00 A.M.to 12:30 P.M. Saturday. Pick up for finished paper Sunday, or self address and stamp an envelope and we’ll see that you receive your handmade paper.

Treasures of Trash become Art Saturday August 26, 2017
S andra Hansen http://www.sandrahansen.com/ has developed a process to incorporate single use bags, and other plastics into beautiful hand crafted paper. This three hour workshop covers basic techniques with recycled materials for paper making. We’ll share a recycle bin of available materials and students are encouraged to bring any thing they deem worthy of using. Basics like sheet forming, pressing and drying using a large format deckle and assorted pulps will be the focus of the workshop.
This hands-on workshop is a great way to try on a new art form. We will explore the possibilities of what recycling might add to our paper projects. Experiment with textures from objects of throw away society-

*In the spirit of keeping costs affordable we require four students per session or we will cancel/reschedule date. We encourage you to arrive a little early, put away your cell phone and enjoy our creative space. We shall start with a concept and will finish with a piece of art paper. Sultry Summer Camps: It's All About Paper

We've been delighted with the summer visits of creatives from far and wide, Airbnb guests ala drop-in artist in residence for weekend workshops in Paper making. Open space in each offering is still available. We'll create hand pressed paper using natural fibers gathered from cat tails, flowers and make a workshop out of the experience at Art Farm Fennville.

Paper for your journal, window screens, hanging art, wrapping gifts and having as part of your hand written note stash.

Is it an acquired taste this foot loose wonder? Is it tied to the lens of my camera, the ink that flows from my pen? I’d place a bet that my personality has something to do with it all, however being able to melt into an experience as it presents itself is the true test of adventure. Eyes to see sort of thing, yes?
I’ve spent a big part of my appetite for life with a camera in my hand. My extension of self looking through a lens to capture something of beauty, due to the prevailing wind of “why would you do that?” Exactly my thought except I tend to add “why not do that? This spirit of discovery could introduce you to a new craft.
Seeking the slippery slope of what if holds a certain charge as opportunities tend to present themselves along with the creative ideas for applied wonder. Such wonder- opportunity to experience something new as a medium yet to be explored, perhaps this too motivates you?
Ernest Shackleton felt it, so did John Glenn, Amelia Earhart personalities cut from a cloth of unusual weave that snared tenacious curiosity with gumption and applied it with liberal measure to the moment as being game to try.
My day began, this last beautiful day of April with this sentiment, arm twisting not needed for seeking out new creative endeavors for class and work shop offerings. Summer opportunity? We'd love a Woofer or two- culinary students maybe or creatives wanting a space to plug in. Contact me for our June-August available.

Santa Cruz Creatives

Our own local favorite creative artist force of nature, Michael Leeds was honored at the Gail Rich Awards this month, his broad stroke can be experienced from the rockets blasting off at the Bonny Doon Winery, the Santa Cruz Movie Marque, and the crazy cadre of automobile/kinectic art that we see him driving around on occasion.

This lovely slice of community we embrace, it’s the slice that sustains. Gives us a moment to pause and ponder the wonder of creative magic. Thank you to the Arts Council of Santa Cruz and Wallace Baine- Bravo one and all.
