Found Object. Upcycled. Treasures Bound for the Dump.
There’s an added delight to dumpster diving when the things headed to the dump become a viable art centric project and the project ends up looking like a lovely little shack for writers visiting in the summer, or hosting wwoofers needing a respite from Art Farm duties. Traveling to Slipper Island while wwoofing was a highlite of making a little elbow grease and some paint go a long way towards transformation. Slap on some sun screen and see what happens. Here’s a bit of where it all went. Culturally this exchange of barter is alive and well, it’s the backbone of how many of my own projects get done seasonally creatives that arrive at art farm fennville to hone a new outlook, to learn and to share My own adventures in wwoofing have taught me how digging through other peoples’ farm projects on another continent have a similar charm- mixing leftover paints and using stencils with sponged paint the dive shack seen below is got a bit of charm. Where ever I go- My Art du Jour pop-up series of create with junk has found a home in Tairua, NZ at least for the month of February. Nice to tie in with the creative community here on the Coromandel and lend some creative juju to whatever is on the daily duJour of art project. Thank you to the Pepe Reserve Tairua hosting the Saturday sandy stretch workshops while I’m here.. Fast forward if you will to 2020, we'd like to offer up an opportunity to WWOOF in #fabulousfennville
The link here will send you in the right direction. We'll have open studio time set aside for those seeking to plug in to the workshops and classes. Limited creative space can be set aside too, let us know ![]() Oh My…. how the time flies. Five years ago this coming weekend, I landed here in Saugatuck. What I found was a fantastic creative community and great venues to showcase art. I’ve been able to experience Ox-Bow, Lake Michigan creatives and a true community of support to help Artdujour find it’s footing. The 35th annual #bluecoastartists will showcase the talented creative community on a lovely October weekend in a few days. My farm was once on the tour when the talented sculptor and welder Terry Thomas opened his studio that weekend five years ago. I fell in love with the idea of working full-time as art director to artdujour.org while hosting classes and workshops on the almost 20 acres here. Alas fast forward, the torch passed on and many a sculpture lives in the space I’ve recreated as #artfarmfennville. I’m delighted to call this patch of land home. My skills have grown as welding, and feral farm girl maintence continue to be my main stay of form and function here in fabulous Fennville. I’ll be hosting another Democratize The Bean Workshop this Saturday. Find the offerings on airbnb experiences and join us as we roast fair trade beans from Nicaragua and Chiapas Mexico. The last month of roasting and coffee education coming to a close as the weather turns. As a ode to this ole farm, my five year anniversary is coinciding with the Blue Coast Tour. Stop in and say hello is you venture down 66th st. I’ll have artisan roasted beans for sale, my studio might be open ( weather permitting) to showcase my latest round of creative awesome-asembledge art ala found object metal . Thank-you to this amazing community as we say good by to the summer season and a great year of hosting classes, workshops #hipcamp and @airbnbexperiences. @christine_currie ![]() This weekend Art duJour presents a FullMoon Retreat, be as one with nature. Consider joining us for a Fennville Goose Festival parade float/gaggle of Plumas de Ganza, Thursday September 19th @artfarmfennville we’ll plan-plot-decorate with feathers and goose festival inspired creative community. Stay tuned for the months of October and November workshops Look to the falling leaves of autumn to lead us toward a contemplative time to explore with out the summer crowds. Foraging and wildcrafting offering are going to be a part of the #artfarmfennville workshops. Look for the links @airbnbexperiences We’ve had a great season of artisan roasted coffee beans, workshops and hands-on food as art with a few farmers markets tossed in for fun. There’s a monthly full-moon fire, maybe it morphs into a food centric or art project to kick off the gathering. Nice to have a few farm to fork events under the stars on tap, and the foraging wildcrafting with fall colors to look forward to. (above ) Christine Currie with our Stella, golfcart-tractor wannabee #artfarmfennville There's a new offering of art, food, and coffee roasting workshops this month at Art Farm Fennville. We've enjoyed being in the beta for community offerings that #airbnbexperiences shares with the entire planet. The unsalted shores of Lake Michigan a pretty fantastic spot to explore summer camp styled offerings. Coffee and yoga? How can you not? Summer time.......
