It’s an exciting time for creatives with a pen, our local Santa Cruz based Robert Sward a bright light of the poetry scene as the author of more than 20 books of poetry, including “Rosicrucian in the Basement,” “God is in the Cracks” and his most recent work, “New & Selected Poems: 1957-2011.” The former Cornell University, Guggenheim Fellow, Iowa Writers' Workshop instructor, and UC Santa Cruz professor will be inaugurated as poet laureate Sept. 24, when he leads a literary event titled “Voices of the River,” a family-oriented poetry event at San Lorenzo Park in Santa Cruz, as part of the Ebb & Flow River Arts project.
The two-year position is the county’s most high-profile literary appointment and is sponsored by Arts Council Santa Cruz County, Poetry Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz County Office of Education and Santa Cruz Public Libraries.

As a side note: This last year much of my own writing and editing adventures have brought me into the talented fold of local writers and poets work shopping stories and memoir under the guidance of Robert Sward. We are so very lucky and excited to honor such a great guy!
