World Book Night, U.S.
April 23rd, 2014. Half a million books to be given away: Spreading the love of reading, person to person.
Santa Cruz, CA.
Art du Jour has been chosen again, as a volunteer giver. This year’s selection, as last year, will be focusing upon young adult readers. Our book to be given away is "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children".
Christine Currie, director of Art du Jour, upon being chosen as book giver, responds, “ We're delighted and honored to be involved with this terrific organization and think it's simply impossible not to be giddy when discussing giving out free, recent release books, new and non dog-eared.”
Reading changes lives, improves employability, social interaction, enfranchisement, and can have a positive effect on mental health and happiness.
World Book Night U.S. is part of an ambitious campaign to encourage reading and giving. A half million free paperbacks will be handed out across America all on one day — April 23rd (Shakespeare’s birthday) — by enlisting 25,000 volunteer book lovers. Art du Jour will help promote reading by going into our community and handing out free copies of a book we love, often to those without means or access to a printed book.
Art du Jour is very proud to be a World Book Night giver.
"What a great project to encourage and reward both reading AND volunteering in such a creative way." —Mary Jane
